[Endovascular treatment of thoracic aortic disease].

Aortic diseases are highly evolutive pathological entities that may often have an acute clinical presentation. The estimated 5-year risk of rupture of a thoracic aortic aneurysm with a diameter between 4 and 5.9 cm is 16%, but it rises to 31% for aneurysms of > or = 6 cm. Endovascular treatment is an emerging alternative option to surgery with low invasiveness, which allows to treat even high s...

Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (TEVAR) for Ruptured Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms

Repair of Ruptured Descending Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms (rDTAA) remains a challenging surgical undertaking. Although rupture is rare, when it occurs it is often a lethal event. Traditionally the standard of repair for rDTAA has been open surgical repair requiring thoracotomy, aortic cross-clamping, and cardiopulmonary bypass. However, while the standard, these open procedures are accompanied by...

Outcomes of endovascular repair of ruptured descending thoracic aortic aneurysms.

BACKGROUND Thoracic endovascular aortic repair offers a less invasive approach for the treatment of ruptured descending thoracic aortic aneurysms (rDTAA). Due to the low incidence of this life-threatening condition, little is known about the outcomes of endovascular repair of rDTAA and the factors that affect these outcomes. METHODS AND RESULTS We retrospectively investigated the outcomes of ...

[Endovascular treatment of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms].

Currently, two treatment options for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are available: conventional open surgical repair and endovascular minimally invasive repair. Open repair carries a significant morbidity and mortality rate, most probably due to the combined effects of general anaesthesia and surgical exposure. Based on anatomical characteristics as assessed by CT scan, approximately...

Late lumen loss in thoracic aortic end graft after endovascular procedure of a traumatic pseudoaneurysm

We report the case of a 23-year-old woman who died due to endograft stenosis 20 months after thoracic endovascular aortic repair. The patient presented with the pseudocoarctation syndrome. Although angioplasty of stenosis endograft was successfully performed, severe metabolic complications were lethal.
